The Pumpkin Patch

It was the big day....our visit to the school pumpkin patch.  Isn't amazing how such a small thing can bring so many feelings of excitement and wonder?  The children could not wait to get back to this little shady area to select the perfect small pumpkin.  Below you will see all of the little guys sitting there looking perfectly cute... how does one pick just one of them for their very own?  Well it wasn't easy.  Each child had their own turn to carefully review the patch and select their perfect match.  Then after they made their selection, had to wait on the next classmate.  I was so surprised that no one got frustrated with the wait, we all waited patiently on our friends.  The weather was cool and breezy and it worked well with our theme for the week...our five senses.  We used our ears to hear the wind, our eyes to see the pumpkins and all of the changes in season around us, our hands to touch the bumpy texture of the pumpkins.  Of course we didn't use smell or taste but that will come later when we make our delicious pumpkin muffins.

Here we are with our perfect little orange companions.  Don't we look so cute?

Now after the long walk back to our classroom, each child carrying their very own pumpkin, these new friends wait in anticipation for what will come next.  How will we decorate them?  Should we even decorate them at all?  The possibilities are endless and I think we talked about everyone of them today.  Everyone will have to wait and see what we decide to do.  We will make a list and vote on our favorite idea.  There were many sad faces when they learned that they would not be taking our pumpkins home today.  We have so many fun things to do with them...like weigh them, measure them, even carve one to see what is inside.  Pumpkin fun has arrived in our class this week!
