J is for Jack O'Lantern

This week we are learning about the letter J.  We had so much fun with the alphabet suitcase and coming up with words that start with J.  Here you see our Jack O 'Lantern.  It first came to our classroom from a friend who got it at a Pumpkin Patch.  It was a regular little pumpkin and we loved it.  It helped us learn about the season of fall and got us super excited about the upcoming Halloween holiday.  Well today, we turned it into a Jack O' Lantern.  Did you know that a pumpkin is not actually a Jack O' Lantern until it gets a face?  This little guy has triangle eyes, a square nose and a circle mouth.  We talked about all kinds of shapes that we could use, but agreed on these.  He turned out pretty cute, don't you think?  I love him and I especially love that the children had so many ideas about what he might be saying.... like  "boo" or "woo" but the best suggestion was that he was saying "ooooh...I think your house looks so cute."  Don't you love children?  They have the best ideas.  I think that I am going to call this "Happy Jack O' Lantern day!!"
