Polar Friends

Our latest art projects are on display in the hallway just outside our door and, as you can see, they make you think of the snowy places we have been learning about.   Yes our polar bears look a little darker than you would expect, but that is because he really does have black skin under all of his thick white fur.  His black skin acts almost like an insulator and his fur is more like individual straws.  (This helps him absorb the heat from the sun for the cold polar nights.)  And our penguins look a little silly because they are so funny to watch.   There are so many kinds of penguins, we just couldn't decide which one to make.  So we just used our imagination.   You probably can't see from the pictures, but our girl penguins are even wearing necklaces....Now we know they don't really wear jewelry - but it just looked so cute.

Another Day On "The Stars"

Another day where we all made it to the stars!!!!  We have really been working so hard and I had to share this.  Our little art show in the hall has now become quite the competition.  It started as a fun way to display some of our best work, but now Mrs. Rachel & I have a tough time choosing what papers go up on the wall.  We are paying attention to directions and focusing on just doing our very best, . AND - it really isn't that hard to do.  I think the children really forget how hard they are working and have so much fun learning....that it all just ends up being a great time

Penguins Are Awesome!!!

We are getting close to the end of our winter learning units.... and even though we haven't seen any snow, we sure had lots of fun learning about animals that love living in it.  These totally cute little "waddly" friends will be coming home tomorrow, along with the book beside him.  The children read the book and use our penguin buddy to act out the words.... it is too much fun!  Plus we have had a blast pretending that he is a real classmate... he is a better teacher than me and the children love to hear what he is thinking.......Imaginary play is such a wonderful thing.  So get ready for some polar fun in your home when these guys finally make it to your house, the children have had a hard time waiting on Thursday to get here.

Our Room Is Bursting With A Love Of Learning

It was one of those days where you could feel the energy level rising!!!!  Everyone was so excited to be at school and to work hard.  We took our time at the table and even did a great job paying attention to how we were seated. (Ever heard of "a ready to work chair?'  That's when you sit down and scoot all the way to the back of the chair and then scoot your chair up to the table to have good posture & attention.)  We used our brains during our center play time to measure things (even how tall we were) and read some books to our friends.  It was an awesome day and these boys and girls are on a sprint to kindergarten.  I am going to have to slow them down because it is only January you know?  Way to go boys and girls!!!!!

Welcome Friend!

If you haven't heard - we have a new friend in our class!!!!! We are soooooooooo excited.  (I hope you got the emphatic "soooooooooooo.")  We have been bucket fillers and helped her jump right into the routine.  Thank you God for sending us a new friend to get to know!

Pride

Perseverance!!!! As I post these pictures I am so proud of my children.  You see determination in their faces and I have nothing to say except how proud I am them.  It is the hardest thing to watch your child compete.  To see them struggle with defeat, pain, and success - it is all so amazing.  They are young adults and I have no idea where they will end up in life.  My only hope is that they do their very best and are happy!   Our Bible verse this month is from Colossians 3:23 -"...whatever you do work it with your whole heart...." I think these pictures remind me of what it means to use your "whole heart."

We Honor Dr. King

Monday is our holiday to remember all of the work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.  He was an amazing man who did so many things to bring our nation together.  We will never understand why it was so hard for him to accomplish such a simple goal, but we thank him for working for peace in our country.  In our tiny little classroom in this super "gianormus" world, we are happy that God made us all different and special.  It makes our room fun and exciting to learn from each other - so here is our work to honor Dr. King.  We made some friendship drawings and did a fun "color by number" project.   Below, however, is the best work ever.... God's beautiful children.  These boys and girls love and accept each other and help each other.  They lift each other up when it is a "not so great" day and celebrate when it is an "outstanding" day.   If we all loved with a child's heart I think our world would be a much simpler and happy place.  We share with our friends and love them.  We use manners and do lots of smiling and loving and, in all honesty, what is wrong with that?  Take a look at these faces... they show us peace and love.  Celebrate Dr. King on Monday by celebrating friendship and acceptance.

Fun With Snowmen

Who doesn't love snow?  Not that yucky icy stuff that causes roads to freeze and trees to fall on power lines, but the fluffy, shimmery flakes that fall so quietly that it feels like magic?  Everyone has to love this just a tiny bit....but we LOVE it a whole bunch.   Even though the weather was pretty cold this week and felt like it could snow - we didn't see one tiny flake.  BUT - our classroom was a filled with snowy fun anyway.  Above you can see our snowmen we painted with "snow" paint.  It was fluffy and light, but not "melty" at all.  It dried puffy and soft and our snow friends are hanging in the hall to help keep us in a "snowy' mood.  Then we made some cuddly little snow friends with some socks and rice.  We had a great time picking out scarfs and hats and just can't wait to bring these little guys home. What fun it would be to have a real snowman as a friend....
