Halloween Fun!

Yay for Halloween!!!  It finally got here and we actually had some sun to give us playground time!!!  We made a "jingling jack o'lantern" necklace to wear for trick or treating...

and practiced lacing up these mummies with some yarn.

The big news today... (well besides trick or treating) was the awesome wiggle eye reading pointer that came with our little Halloween reader.  WE can all read this book and did an awesome job listening and using pointer to find letters in our book and sound out words!!!  We were so EXCITED!!!!!
....and I can't forget the super letter writing practice each child completed during this week!!!  We reviewed our first seven letters of the alphabet and practiced writing them.  Mrs. Kelli  & I are super proud of our boys and girls and their hard work!

Happy, Loud Learning On Several Rainy Days

So... everyone knows we got a pretty fair amount of rain the last couple of days.  It might not have been constant, but it was enough to keep us inside.  (And don't get me wrong, I say my prayers thanking God for our rain...)  While we did our best to keep ourselves on task... we couldn't help but get a little stir crazy!  Above you can see our pumpkin painting project with the mini pumpkins we collected at Wingard's Nursery.  Our boys and girls voted to use rainbow colors and these little guys turned out so cheerful!!!
We built all kinds of amazing Lego creations.. cars, trains, towers...
worked in learning centers with numbers and letters...

had time for some preschool graduates to stop and say, "hello"

played basketball in the gym  (with lots of personal fouls I might add)
made a really tiny play doh snowman...

and generally had lots of fun being together and learning.  (even using lunch time to make letters with our crackers.)  Rainy days are loud ... sometimes really loud... but always the best!  And, yes!!! Thank you God for the rain that we need to nourish our earth!!!

Nocturnal Friends

Last week we learned about nocturnal animals...of course there are many non flying nocturnal friends, but with Halloween approaching, we completed this art project.  We free painted our big spooky moon and added an owl and some bats.  We put these on display as you come up the stairs the our classroom and the children absolutely love looking at their work as we go up and down the stairs.  This really makes me smile because we are learning that we should be proud of our hard work.  The children look for their name and compliment each other as we walk past them.  We are so happy to share our work with our schoolmates at the preschool!

Fun With A Pumpkin

Carving a pumpkin in a class with four year olds is really fun and giggly but always pretty stressful!  The children always have so much fun cleaning the pumpkin out....but when it comes to the carving part.... they can be harsh critics.

Everyone (including Mrs. Kelli) bravely reached into the squishy pumpkin and helped collect some seeds.  You can see from our faces that it was as much fun as it was "gross."  Then we all voted on the face and this teacher did the best she could with the directions.
So here is our completed class Jack O'Lantern... with his happy "robot" face.
And here we are with our Jack O'Lantern... making our best happy faces and crazy Halloween faces!

We hope these pictures light up your hearts like this Jack O'Lantern lit up our classroom!  Happy Halloween!
