Graduation Day

It was our Spring Program & Graduation Day.  (Yes there are tears in my eyes.)  These precious children have given me so much joy and happiness this year that it is hard to say goodbye.  My family always asks me this time each year, "why are you crying?"  Because it is so hard to let this come to an end.  They are so special and sweet and have taught me so much that I feel like a mom to all 12 of them.  We did such an awesome job today even though we were crazy with excitement.  My prayers are for a safe and happy summer and a kindergarten year filled with love and learning.  Happy Days to the Class of 2013!  I will miss each of you!

Party Day

It was our "end of the year" party day but as you can see from the pictures above, we are still working on our "brains."  We have been checking some of the puzzles in the workroom to make sure they have all of the pieces and some of them are pretty hard....BUT we are so smart!  Here we are with the most recent project!  (If your child tells you that "puzzles make your brain grow."  They are telling the truth.  I have told them many times that learning to solve puzzles helps you learn to solve problems in "real life." So yes puzzles do make your brain grow.)

We also had our fun "party day."  We had a pinata.  Everyone took 3 swings, but in the end Mrs. Laurie had to "assist" with opening it.  We also had a "totally cute" party.  The decorations and treats were awesome.  Many thanks to the moms who put this together.

It was a great day.  Our last class party for these beautiful children.  Happy Graduation Class of 2013!!!!

It Is Here

The end of the year is really here!  I cannot believe that we have come to May so quickly.  I am so proud of the children and can honestly say that they are 100% ready for kindergarten.  Here we are practicing for our program and graduation.  It is only a matter of few days and your little ones will be graduates of Pilgrim Community Preschool.

Sushi Day

Sushi - in preschool? Yes, we really made sushi!  As you know Bonnie Sensei has been teaching us Japanese.  We really love it and to end our year, she came to teach us how to make sushi.  I'll admit, I was a little afraid of this with 5 year old students, but they did totally great!  They helped prepare the sushi and no one said, "gross."  And we tasted the the sushi.  I am so proud of our boys and girls.  Trying new things can be really intimidating, especially at such a young age, but they were really brave.  I think it was because they saw all of the ingredients and figured out that they like them already.  Arigatou Bonnie Sensei.

Happy Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day to my sister and my mom.  We are very blessed to be close.  We are one of those crazy families that pretty much do EVERYTHING together.  If my boys are not at our home, they are at "Pete's", or at my parent's.  As they grew up they lovingly called them "mama" just as much as they called me "mama."  It is such an amazing gift to be a mother and I am humbled to meet so many wonderful moms every day.  I can never thank my mom enough for all of the things she did to make my life so wonderful as I grew up.  So as I write this post, I am thanking you for your child.  They are young and have no idea how hard it is to be a mama.  They do not know the tears that we shed when they are hurt or sad or how bad it hurts us when they make bad choices.  I don't think it ever gets easier because my boys are only in middle school.  I think we worry more instead of less and say so many prayers that they will follow God's purpose for them. So I hope that you each of you found your Mother's Day card and your candle treat from your child.  We worked on them this week at school and it is always so much fun for me to hear all of their answers to the questions about "my mom."  I wish you could hear them tell their friends all about you.  So for Mother's Day....here our answers to "I love my mom because..."
Aidan said, "because she is silly so much."
Clare said, "because she is nice."
Colton  said, "because I love her."
Eric said, "because she sleeps with me at night."
Evan said, "because she plays with me."
Gracie said, "because she is so fabulous and pretty."
Juliana said, "because she always gives me hugs and kisses."
Lauren said, "because she is beautiful and nice."
Logan said, "because she loves me."
Morrison said, "because she lets me watch special shows."
Sami said, "because she loves me and we snuggle together."
Walker said, "because she loves me so much."
Happy Mother's Day!  Your children love you so much!

How Does A Seed Grow?

This week we built on our knowledge of insects & spiders to learn about the ecosystem and how they help plants grow.  Here are our lima bean seeds (above.)  We put them in these little greenhouses to observe them and were amazed at how much they have started to grow.  They came home in your child's bag, so you can plant them in your garden or in a large flower pot to see the entire life cycle of a plant.  Below are some seeds from a friend.  He brought them in to share with our class and we separated them into 2 categories: eat and can't eat.  The children were surprised to learn how much we need plants to flowers to live.  (At the very least we need them to breathe.)  These seeds were so interesting and the children had a great time looking at them.  Thank so much to this friend for sharing them with us.

Fun Friend Pictures

Just some cute pictures from our week.  It is getting louder and louder as it gets closer to the end of the year.  Everyone is so excited that they are ready for Kindergarten.  I love how the children in our class get along and play together.  These smiles are sure to brighten your day.

Library Day

Here is our friendly librarian.  She came for another visit this week and brought some great books about fish.  It was a fun way to introduce our unit for next week.  Everybody LOVED the books that she brought to share.  Isn't it great how much we love to hear stories?  I always tell the students in my class that reading makes your brain grow...so they are working hard to learn to read.

Koinobori Witn Bonnie Sensei

The four year old students at the preschool celebrated Children's Day in Japan with Bonnie Sensei by making beautiful fish kites.  These are koinobori and are used to celebrate Children's Day in Japan.  We will display them upstairs.  We are so excited to be learning Japanese this year and look forward to singing a song for everyone at the Spring Program.

Summer Is Almost Here

We had a really good time yesterday and you can definitely tell that the end of the year is just around the corner.  Our classroom is getting louder and louder.  The children are so EXCITED that they are almost in kindergarten.  Here is our summer door decoration.  These are sunny faces and if you are in the building - you should stop by to read about some of our summer plans.  I cannot believe that we have less than 4 weeks of our preschool year left.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar

Since we learned about insects & and spiders last week, we made a fun little caterpillar inspired by Eric Carle.  I am pretty sure that everyone is familiar with his beautiful books and this was from The Very Hungry Caterpillar.  The children selected the colors for the "creepy crawly" friend and did all of the cutting and pasting.  They are so cheerful and happy and aren't very "creepy crawly" at all.  Who knew that we would love learning about insects and spiders so much!

Show & Tell

Show & Tell Week!  It was a another fun time for everyone as we brought our "very best thing" to share with our class.  We had transformers, stuffed animals, a marionette, pictures, a baby doll with a pacifier and a real live hermit crab.  We did a really good job sharing with our friends.  Don't forget that we will do show & tell each week until the end of the year.  Please follow the schedule that was provided.
