Puff and Walker

We have two new guests in our room. They arrived yesterday and we just had to give them a name. We are going to be watching them over the next few weeks to see how they change and grow. Today they are just little bitty caterpillars but we are anticipating the process of metamorphosis. So...meet Puff and Walker. If you have some time, come in and visit - I'm sure they would love to say, "hi." Your children will probably give you daily updates as they grow and mature as Mrs. Laurie and I get every few minutes. One of the students today even acted out what our caterpillars were doing when she watched. Isn't science great? But even better - isn't creation great? Thanks be to God for this wonderful world, for children's curiosity and for all that we have been given..

Resurrection Biscuits

You may have found a recipe attached to your child's bag today. We made yummy resurrection biscuits today for our snack and the children really loved them. The biscuits had a secret ingredient that disappeared during the baking process and when the children took a bite - it was gone.
Yeah - just like Jesus on Easter morning. The tomb was empty - just like our biscuit. These are some really tasty Easter snacks - so try them at home. I guarantee that you will make them more than once.

This Is Jesus

As we get closer to Easter we continue to talk about Jesus and what His love means to us. I know we are only four, five and almost five, but the children have lots of great thoughts. Part of this discussion was about His appearance. Here are our artistic impressions of Jesus. You will see these displayed outside of our classroom along with the lyrics to a beautiful anthem by David Haas..."without seeing you, we love you; without touching you, we embrace; without knowing you, we follow; without seeing you, we believe." The message of this anthem is so simple and true. The words are for us - not the children, but I just thought they went so beautifully with this art display. This was totally child created and I think they are just wonderful.

Palm Sunday

This Sunday begins our Holy Week. We have completed our devotion and you should have received your little box today. This was based on the book, Benjamin's Box, by Melody Carlson. The children have been continuing to learn about what the church season of Lent is all about and the real sadness that everyone feels right before the joy of Easter morning. It is so wonderful that God loves us all of the time. Here is our palm "frond" we made to help us get ready for the Palm Sunday festivities that Jesus felt on his triumphant entry into Jerusalem. ..."sing hosanna to the King of Kings..."

100 Days Of Preschool!

Happy 100 day crazy glasses!

We are officially 100 days smarter, stronger and bigger than that first day of preschool way back in September. (If you can remember way back then in 2009.) Today was our counting day and we had lots of fun celebrating with Mrs. Cindy & Mrs. Lynda's class. We counted, enjoyed our fabulous 100 day snack mix and played some silly games outside. Hooray for school and hooray for us! We are ready for kindergarten.

100th Day!

Tuesday will be our 100th day of preschool. We will be 100 days smarter and ready for the counting madness. We can count by 1's, 5's and 10's. Happy 100th day 4 day fours!!!

Lime Sherbet - A Delicious Treat!

We had to delay our yummy lime sherbet and finally got to enjoy it today. The children are not usually so willing to taste something new, but they really loved this tangy, frozen treat. (Don't tell them it is a healthy snack.) The best part was that it made our tongues and lips turn green.

Spring Is Blooming All Around

Even though it was dreary and mostly cloudy, we welcomed spring into our room today with beautiful flowers. The children cut and pasted these cheerful daffodils for our door. Hello Spring!!

Did It Look Like Spilt Milk To You?

Last week was all about the weather and here are pictures of our cloud art. They are posted outside of our door and are really creative. Take a few minutes to stop in and look at your child's work.

More Friendly Faces

Our playground time is always so much fun. The children use their imaginations to run and play games - you know the "work" of children. Here are some really fun pictures from our sunny playground day. This little house was our "Dairy Queen." It was really good to enjoy these imaginary tasty treats without all of the calories. (If only it could be this way in real life.)

Happy St. Patrick's Day

Today was all about wearing green. (Of course I wasn't able to be there.) I hope the Leprechaun made a stop in our room to leave these yummy rainbow cups.

What Do You See In The Clouds?

As we learn about weather, we took some time to look at the clouds. We read a really fun book by Charles Shaw called "It Looked Like Spilt Milk." It was about the funny shapes we can see in fluffy clouds. The children had lots of fun looking at the sky and painting their own funny clouds.

Our Hearts Our Growing During Lent

If you take a look at our Lenten cross posted outside our classroom, it is growing in love. Our hearts are almost completely covering the black cross underneath. As Holy Week approaches and we learn more about how much Jesus really loves us, this cross will show Him how we much we love Him back.

Pictures Are Over - Whew!

No more posing or getting dressed up - can you just see the relief in their faces? All of the waiting with our friends is finally over. Silly faces to say goodbye to "picture day."

It Is Almost That Time

It was cap and gown picture day. (Make sad face now.) It is always such a huge reminder that our year is nearly over. These boys and girls have grown so much and no matter how many times we do this, it never gets easier. This day makes us serious and reflective while the children giggle like crazy. Preschool is the best and you will find that once "big school" starts - the innocence your children have now will just vanish. I find myself reminding all parents that this gift of childhood is more of a gift to us parents than any of us really know. Our world moves faster and faster every day and we miss so many little things because of the haste of life. Take five minutes today to just talk to your child and inhale every tiny single thing they tell you. They grow up overnight and you can never get any of this back. Be sentimental - take pictures, read books, color, ride bikes, have picnics, play Legos, play Barbie...just have fun today.

Picture Day!

Say cheese ... or... monkey or... pizza! Spring pictures were today.
Our smiles were bright as we waited for our turn with the photographer. It is always a rather unpredictable day and this was no exception. Since our class is so big, we always take the longest and it does require great patience - especially on the part of the children. God made these beautiful children. If you can't see it all the time (especially when they are acting their age at home) - today you really can. Especially in the silly faces below. Can you blame us? We did have to have some fun.

Picture Day!

Don't forget that tomorrow is individual and class picture day. We have no idea when we will be called, but promise to do our very best with bows and belts. It is a crazy kind of day since we can't really plan how we will do things, especially in the middle of dinosaur week. My understanding is that our pictures are scheduled indoors.

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss

We celebrated Dr. Seuss' birthday with party hats and rhyming words galore. It was fun to listen to some silly rhyming nonsense books and practice reading them on our own.

Lucky Leprechauns

Here is our door art for March. Stop by and see our Leprechaun creations. They are festive and really cute.

Cupcakes - Yum!

Alright - this is not a healthy snack - like last week - but never-the-less - it is delicious. We have a mom in our class that is starting her own cupcake business. If cupcakes are your thing - ask us for a card. They are made from "scratch" and taste so good. (The made from scratch part is the "healthy" component.) Mrs. Laurie & I can vouch for the quality. Yummy!

Monday - Yeah!

Our class was so great today. Was it really Monday? They were so well behaved - not that they usually aren't, but it was a wonderful day. The children made some lucky leprechauns for our door and practiced cutting for our lion/lamb weather vane. We are all such good "cutters" (even though his face doesn't show it.) Thank you boys and girls for a great first day of the week.
