The Best Librarian

It was our first community helper day!  We kicked it off with a visit from the most fun community helper...the librarian.  (If you keep following this blog, I will honestly say the every community helper is the most fun....firemen drive the firetruck; policemen drive police cars; postal workers bring us fun mail; etc....)  Our guest today works at the Lexington Branch and is so awesome!   She brought us some great books about the craziest farm animals.   One was about a duck who rides a bike and even entices the other animals to ride bikes too.  Another was about the silly antics of horses at night and another was about the cow who loved to eat cookies.   Who knew that librarians sang funny songs and even danced some silly dances?  We had a great time with her and showed off our best "kindergarten" behavior, because we ARE getting ready for kindergarten.  Thank you to this librarian who brought those books to life!  I think these boys and girls know how much fun it is to read and how much it makes our brains grow!!!!
(Look at how we are sitting still and listening so well.  I told you this librarian was really entertaining.  I think I'll check out the next story time myself.)

Making Apple Pies

It was one of my favorite days at preschool....apple pie day!  Tomorrow we will celebrate "Johnny
Appleseed Day" and to help us get ready we each made a tiny apple pie to take home and share!  Yep...we really made them in our classroom.  Everyone patted out their crust, added the apples and sprinkled on the topping.  (Okay - some of us even sampled the apples for a morning energy snack.)  Then Mrs. Laurie took them over to the oven to bake.  They came out toasty and brown and smelled "applelicious."  They are just the right size for a snack and taste so yummy!

These are our little pies, but below you will see what the full size version looks like.  Much to my husband's surprise, I had one waiting when he got home from work.  It was an "apple pie day" for everyone.  (Now if I just remembered the vanilla ice cream.)

"F" Is For Friiend

This post needs no explanation.  We are all friend in this little class and yes, we are a family.  Here we we are on a beautiful "playground" day!  Smiling and loving to run and play.  There is... "lots of imagination and lots of running and lots of yelling and lots of everything...."  It is just so much fun to share time with our friends.  We really are being "bucket fillers" and doing our best to help others not be "bucket dippers."  Life is just so much better when our buckets are full of friendship, confidence and love.

Discoveries

Little things happen every day in our classroom!  Just like in real life we celebrate new accomplishments/discoveries.  Today we had a friend be the clean up helper and check all of the centers to make sure everything was put a way neatly.  We also had a friend put his lunchbox in his bag all by himself  and we had friends sharing "shadow" fun with each other.  AND....it was only Monday!

Starting Over

Yes we made it!!!! Our first 16 days of school are over and everyone had a turn being our line leader/class helper.  Starting today all of the cookies go back into the jar and we start over.  That means that anyone can be the leader!  Hooray for our first 16 days of school!

Apples, Fresh From The Orchard

A friend made a fun fall trip this weekend.  He went to the apple orchard with his family and brought everyone a crisp apple straight from the mountains of North Carolina.  You can bet that he is the apple of his mom's eye.  Thank you to this friend for thinking of our class.  This was the perfect way to start our week, when we will be talking about fall and Johnny Appleseed.

The Day The Bears Came To Preschool

You guessed it!!!! Today was our teddy bear picnic and who knew these little stuffed friends could cause so much trouble?  They sure look like quiet guests in our room, but it made our day a little silly and loud! Those sweet bears just called out to us no matter what we were doing.  Our bears sat with us during morning circle time......
And enjoyed our picnic outside in the breezy afternoon sun!  (The weather wasn't too hot or too cold...it was "just right,"  even for a bear with furry, furry skin.)

I discovered that teddy bears don't each that much at lunch time, but they really make us laugh.  They also totally love to play on the playground, but I couldn't get any pictures of the bears in action.  With that being said, it was a really good day to be a teddy bear in our school!

Our First Music Class

Today was our very first day of music with Mrs. Sandra!  It was so much fun.  We learned some fun songs and even got to do the "choo choo" train song.  This class is one of our very favorites so get ready to hear your child singing and humming happy tunes.  Thank you Mrs. Sandra for teaching us about music and movement this year.

Let The Skills Begin

In your child's folder this week, you will find a name writing practice sheet.  This is an easy practice sheet for the children to use to learn to write their names.  (The blocks help us understand letter proportion and spacing.)  I know we are only in preschool, but good habits are solid skills for school and the earlier we start the easier it is for our boys and girls.  Although we are focusing on one letter of the alphabet each week, we are beginning to understand the importance of a capital letter.  If your child tells you that we "salute" a capital letter, they are exactly right.  Capital letters are used in our classroom for important names and places. It may sound a little bit crazy, but most of us will be mastering writing our first and last names before the end of the year.   Our class did a super job with their name practice this week and we are on our way to kindergarten!!!!!

Our First Lesson in Japanese

We had our very first lesson in Japanese.  It is so much fun to watch their faces when our teacher first introduces those "funny" sounding words.  The children did a great job and were so excited to learn a new way of saying some familiar phrases.  You should have found our first word list in your child's bag.  This will be a weekly event so be prepared to hear your child share this new language with you.

Children At Work

These children are at work!  They play and have fun no matter what we are doing!  Just another happy day in our classroom.  The temperature was just perfect for the playground.  You can tell that Fall is just around the corner.  We sure had a great time at school today!
