Sunny Fun

Even on chilly days, (that are surprised to be warmer because it is Spring), we still have a great time in the sun.  Here we are on the slide!  We get along so well and love each other so much!  These pictures just make me smile from the inside out!

Looking Ahead

Here is our Easter art project.  I don't really think it needs an explanation except for the fact that I don't like for the children to really focus on Jesus' death on Good Friday.  (We are only 4 and 5 years old.)  This can be a little scary for our boys and girls and, yes, I know this is the most important part of Easter - but the idea of death can be overwhelming for us.  We spend lots of time talking about the Easter story and Jesus' death but we have to jump ahead to Easter morning, or as one child says, "when Jesus escapes the cross."  As I said in a previous post, we have plenty of time as we grow up to understand the meaning of Jesus' death and what eternal life means, so here our the butterflies to remind us that Jesus makes things new.  It is as simple as that...we are a new creation in Christ and thank goodness He gave His life for me to have many new "creations" on those days where I might not be at my best.  Thank you God for giving us your son, Jesus.

Our Dandy Dandelions

Here is a fun little art project we did when we learned about the letter D and talked about the upcoming Spring season.  They are so cute and wispy and the good news is - if you make a wish on them they don't blow away.  They are hanging just as you go up the stairs to our classroom.  Although it doesn't feel that much like Spring - these little flowers reminds us that it should.

The Easter Story

As this Sunday marks the beginning of Holy Week, we made a special art project to help us remember the Easter story.  This little project helped us learn about Jesus' final journey to the cross.  We colored and cut out our own pictures to tell us the story and pasted them to this wreath.  I did not direct colors for these pictures because this is from your child's point of view.  The Easter story is so sad and scary for children.  I think there is plenty of time for them to learn this part of it, so we did this how we wanted to.  The main purpose of this art project was to help the children understand that Jesus makes this very sad sacrifice for us so that he can rise from the grave on Easter Sunday.  It is such Good News, but we have to wait to share all of this next weekend.  I hope you enjoy this little wreath and that you use it during this upcoming Holy Week to discuss the gift that Jesus gives us when He dies on the cross.

The 100th Day

It was our 100th day of preschool!!!!  Boy were we crazy with excitement.  (If you came inside for afternoon carpool you could feel it in the air.)  You can barely see our counting caterpillar stretched along the fence - but there it is ... all 100 rings.  The children were so funny!  They just knew this caterpillar was going to stretch around the whole playground...but when we actually measured - it didn't even make 1/4 of the way around.  (Funny how estimation actually works.  We made several estimates about the picnic table and slide but missed the boat on the fence.)

We made our 100th day hats and enjoyed some 100 day snack mix.  (Which, I am very proud to say, we knew had way more than 100 pieces because everyone brought 100 of their assigned treat.)  All in all - it was a crazy fun day, but, much to the children's surprise it was not our last day of school.  They all were so funny asking if it was our last day because it was 100 days since school started.  I don't, however, think they were that disappointed when they remembered that class Easter egg hunt is next week.  Happy 100th day!!!!

Guess what happened today?????  Graduation pictures!!!  I cannot believe that it is almost that time of year.  These sweet angels have grown up so much!  Here is a glimpse into their future and the class of 2013.  (If you are like me, you might need a tissue.  These faces are so beautiful and full of God's love!)

St. Patrick's Day Fun

It was a green day for our preschool!  We celebrated St. Patrick's Day early because the real holiday falls on Sunday.  We all looked festive in our green and were energized after enjoying our tasty green snack.

A friend in our class shared this cute teddy bear that sings..."when Irish eyes are smiling..." and these fun Irish potato candy treats.

We also made this rainbow necklace from cereal to help us practice our counting and lacing skills.  Then we went on our leprechaun hunt.  Whew! it was fun, but hard work.  We had to follow these clues and do our best to find that pot of gold.

But....we stayed the course and found that rainbow.  Here it is below.  There was even a pot of gold full of treats for each one of us.
I couldn't end this post without sharing some cute little leprechauns of our own.  I love these faces.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!  Enjoy this weekend of green magic and mischief.

Leprechaun Fun

Don't forget that we will be celebrating St. Patrick's Day a little early.  (St. Patrick's Day falls on Sunday this year.)   Tomorrow is our fun day for this Irish holiday.  Wear your green and come prepared for a little Leprechaun hunt. I am sure that there will be some mischief in the air as these little "fancy dressed friends" stop by our preschool to share some green glittery fun!

Picture Day

It was picture day!  Look how adorable we are!  (Well for the boys I must say how "handsome" we are.)  I am pretty sure that we had the most beautiful smiles and our pictures will be perfect.  It is amazing how much we have grown up since that first day of school way back in August.  I can't believe that kindergarten is just around the corner.

Dot Art

We read a fun book this week by Peter Reynolds called The Dot.  It was the story of a little girl and her experience with art class.  You can see our "dot inspired" art hanging just outside our classroom door.
