Our Space Collage

"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth....Genesis 1:1"
This is always one of the children's favorite art projects - our space collage. This takes several days to make, but they are so different and beautiful when they are put together. We start by painting stars on black construction paper - this represents our galaxy. Then as we learned about the moon, we made our very own moon. (There is a special recipe for our "moon goo." This is specially formulated and is available upon request.) If you look closely you can see the craters in the moon. Our planets are made from coffee filters that are colored with markers and sprayed with water to dilute the colors. Each one turns out completely different and is named by the child artist. Our final feature, the sun, is a new this year. We spend so much time talking about how large and special our sun is that we added it in a mosaic form. This makes our collage complete because we need the warmth of this huge star to keep us warm. Space is so amazing and even though we have been talking about for almost two weeks, there is so much more to learn. These beautiful art projects are displayed just outside our door. Take some time to look around and imagine what it would be like to live on a planet named: "Mr. Dino," "Layna," "Princess," or "Polka Dotia."
