The Cookie Jar
In case your child told you that the "Cookie Jar" picks our classroom helper - well it really does. We pick a cookie each day and the cookie tells us who the class helper is. (There are actually 16 chocolate chip cookies - one for each child in the class.) It is an unexpected surprise and a good way to teach children that life is unpredictable. Once the cookie is drawn, it is placed in the "Cookie Jar For Cookies That Have Already Had A Turn." Once all of the "cookies" have had a turn, we return them all back to the "Cookie Jar" and start all over. It sounds complicated, but it makes things interesting for us. There are many benefits for being the helper - the most important of which is being THE LINE LEADER. The helper also gets to pick a friend to sit at the "friend table" for snack and lunch. I think the children enjoy this and we celebrate for our friends each day.
