Fire Safety

Today, in the rain, the fire truck and firefighters came to visit our preschool. Although we didn't get to go out and climb on the truck, their visit was still a lot of fun. The firefighters brought a really fun music/puppet show that taught about the essentials of fire safety. We learned to never touch matches or lighters and the firefighter asked us to tell an adult if we find them in or around or house. (In fact he made us promise to never even touch them.) We learned that in case of fire at home or at school, smoke rises - so we should stay down and crawl out. We also learned that if our clothing catches on fire we should stop, drop & roll. Even though the topic matter was scary - the fun songs and silly puppets helped us learn these really important safety rules.
The firefighters also visited our classroom to show us the special clothes that are worn when there is a real fire. It was important to see the heavy coat and helmet so that we would not be afraid of firefighters in our home. Thanks so much to our local firefighters to take the time and help us learn about staying safe. (As previously warned, the firefighters did ask the children to practice fire safety drills at home and test smoke alarms.) It is the end of daylight savings this weekend and this is always a good time to test your fire alarm and change the batteries.
