We Love You Rusty....

Here is a picture of Pastor Jay at chapel with his little friend, Rusty.  We were "kinda" sad at chapel because this will be our last visit from Rusty.  He has been helping Pastor Jay teach us about recycling and we LOVE him but he has other important things to do for Pastor Jay.  We will miss this sweet little raccoon but will continue to practice recycling at school and at home.  Thank you Rusty for spending time with us!!!! 

Best Day Ever

It was the best kind of day for me.  A sweet girl stopped by to say "hi!"  She graduated last year and surprised me with a stop in the preschool.  She is so proud of all that she is learning in kindergarten and told our Fun Friday friends all about the fun stuff you learn at big school.  Many thanks to her mom for taking the time to come by today!!!!!

What a beautiful day for the playground?  It was breezy and not "to hot."  So we had lots of fun playing and running around.  We still only see a few leaves changing into their fall colors, but we promise to keep on looking.  Thank you God for this super beautiful day!!!!

Our First Fall Project

Slowly our season is changing and to celebrate the arrival of fall, we made these collage wreaths.  It was a week long process but the children did a great job. (It was also a lesson in patience because they could not wait to take this project home!!!)  The first step was to paint the background frame a fun fall color.  Then we had to let it dry.  (Yes, everyone asked "are we taking this home today?")  The second step was painting our paper to use as a medium for decorating.  This was cool because it was finger paint and we mixed yellow and red paint to make orange.  And did I mention that it was finger paint?????  (Again, "are we taking this home today?")  The next step was to tear our beautifully painted paper into small pieces to glue onto the background frame.   This took a lot of hard work because tearing up paper is really difficult for our little hands.  Then after that we had to use a ton of glue to stick it all down and yes this had to dry overnight too.  (Can you guess what they asked -  "Are we taking this home today?")  Finally - the last step in the process was adding the fall stickers!!!!  And the instructions were to add as many as they wanted.  This was so much fun because it was all child directed.   They had the best time peeling and sticking them down.  So much pride in this cute little project.  And to top it off they got choose a bow to add as a finishing touch.  It is a paper project that won't last a life time, but it was fun to create.  I hope you enjoy this fall wreath because we sure enjoyed making them.

Fire Truck Day!!!!!

Okay, I really do say every day is our favorite day, but I believe that.  We always have so much fun and really today is just one of the "best" best days.  It was our visit from the fire department and if you ask any child in the entire preschool they think of firefighters as superheros!!!!

 

 

 

The fire fighters brought a puppet show to teach us about fire safety.  We learned that if there is a fire and smoke is all around you need to "stay low and crawl out."  We also learned to never play with matches and that we should have a fire drill at home to help us be safe if we need to get out in a hurry.  BUT the most important thing they taught us is to "stop, drop, cover your face & and roll" if we ever have fire on our clothes.  It all sounds kinda scary, but we know that having a plan keeps us safe.  (And the songs were super cute and fun to sing.)

Then one of the fire fighters put on all of his gear and let us see what he looks like if there is a real fire.  This way we know not to be afraid of him and to let him help us.  If you look at the picture just below, you'll see that underneath all of that stuff above is just a super nice guy.  He isn't a scary monster, even though all of the gear looks a little frightening.

Finally, we got to go in the fire truck.  Yep, right into the real fire truck!!!!  Each one of us got to check it out and we thought that was the BEST!!!!!

 

 

  

Below, you see a friend showing us how to call 911.  To help us remember what to do in case of a fire we made a little paper phone with our most important emergency number printed on it....911!  It was fun for us to practice this in our classroom and to learn that we call 911 for real emergency situations when someone is really hurt or there is a fire.

And we did some fire fighter coloring to help us learn all of the gear that our fire fighter friends wear when they "go to work" in dangerous situations.

One of my all time favorite days of the year....guest reader day!!!  It is a time when former students come back to show off their super reading skills.  Today we were so lucky to have TWO friends come on the same day!!!! We were totally in awe of their reading and can't wait to be able to read just like them.  Thank you so much to these friends for stopping by our classroom.  We think that you are sooooo cool!!!

One Of Those Amazing Moments....

There are so many amazing things that occur in our classroom...I am not exaggerating.  There are many times in one tiny window of a day that something totally amazing happens.  We learn something new that we thought we would never understand, we try something new that felt a little scary, we make a new friend, we help someone, we fill someone's bucket - I could go on and on.  These two events just happen to have happened when I could grab my camera and snap a picture.  The group above invented a new card game with the Japanese counting cards. (Yes, you read that right.  We can count to 10 in Japanese.)  They played for quite some time at this new game and had a blast.  The group below was reading a book together.  (And even if they are pretending to read - I qualify that as reading because you have to start somewhere.)  It was a book we read at circle time and they were flipping the pages and having a good time working together.  To me the amazing part is that this all happened spontaneously.    I had to share these and will try my best to catch more during this year.  The difficulty is that Mrs. Rachel and I are usually working with the children in groups and I don't grab my camera in time.  If you haven't heard me say this before, your children are so wonderful and specially made by God.
