A Visit From The Fire Truck

If you haven't heard already, it was our annual visit from the fire truck!  In past years the children haven't been very excited about this visit and, in fact, were a tiny bit scared...but this class was ready to listen and learn!  The firefighters came with all of their gear and demonstrated what they look like while wearing it.  This is always my favorite part of the presentation because the children actually get to go up and touch the fireman.  Sounds like no big deal, but to a child this guy can look pretty scary.  He has on a mask and an oxygen tank, so we have to be super brave to go up and shake his hand.
He showed us exactly how he would like in case of a fire at our house and reminded us not to run away from him.  The puppet show also taught us about safety plans and fire drills and talked about the dangers of playing with matches.  We got to crawl through the fire truck and check out all of the cool tools they have stored for bigger emergencies.  One friend was particularly intrigued by all of these gauges. (We learned that they control the water for the hoses.)

It was a really good day and a super fun visit from another community helper.  Thank you so much to the fire department for coming to visit our preschool and teach us about fire safety.
