What A Precious Bunch!!!

Okay so I didn't catch everyone with their eyes open, but the picture is still precious.  Who can believe that it is January?  Here we are having some fun on the playground.  It is such a wonderful feeling to get outside in the sunshine and fresh air.  We love to see our friends from other classes and use our imaginations to play whatever game we can think up!

Just That Kind Of Day

We had such a wonderful day in our classroom, but that is how it works some times.  Everyone just seemed to be in the "groove" so here is our behavior board with all of the pencils crammed at the top!  I am so proud of everyone!!!

Penguin Art

Of course we had to end our "penguin" study with a fun little art project.  These are our mosaic penguins that we finished today.  They are hanging just outside of our door and look so cute.  Now obviously you can see the pink paper is for our cute little girl penguins who just had to have a cute little "bow" to make them just perfect.  This is our penguin parade.

Penguin Buddies

To help us learn more about penguins, we made these little penguin buddies from a water bottle.  Because the bottle is shaped "sort of" like a real penguin, we were able to study the shape of the penguin and their flippers/wings.  All of these make a penguin a better swimmer and diver, but of course, we also thought they were just really cute.

We also had fun with this little reading book.  It went home with our penguin buddies to help us practice reading at home.  Of course not all of us are reading perfectly just yet, but looking at letters for sounds and finding picture clues certainly sharpens the skills needed for independent reading.

Can You Walk Like A Daddy Penguin?

One of the really fun things that we learned about penguins this week is that the daddy penguin takes care of the egg.  Yes, he stands very still through wind and show carefully protecting his unhatched egg between his warm feet.  We also learned that if it gets very, very, very cold all of the penguin daddies will huddle together.  So for fun we tried to see how easy it would be to walk with an egg between or feet.  Here we are with our little egg and I have to see that all of us did a great job.  There were lots of giggles as everyone tried this difficult task and everyone agreed that they are certainly happy not to be a "daddy" penguin.

Y is for Yo-Yo and Yummy

For snack today we had a fun "yo-yo" cookie.  It was a great way for the children to think about words that start with "y" and enjoy a tasty treat.  We also had a "yummy" lunch and below you will see us enjoying lunch with friends in our classroom.

The Great Snowball Fight

We have been talking about winter for weeks and were looking for just the right time to have a "snowball fight."  (Of course not a real snowball fight because, as the children said "we don't have any snow.")  The weather was just a little more cooperative because at least finally felt cold enough for snow.  So we used our imagination to use these fluffy white cotton balls as a substitute for the real stuff and guess what....it was a blast.  We all followed the safety rules and didn't run around our room and had a great time tossing "snowballs" at our friends.  I am pretty sure that your children wouldn't mind having an indoor snowball fight at home.  I think the best part for everyone was that there were no wet clothes and we were still very warm inside our room.

A Lesson In Friendship From Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Since we are going into a long holiday weekend and Monday's holiday is in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., we spent some time in our classroom learning about the meaning of friendship.  The sweet faces in our classroom are all so loving that they could not understand why people wouldn't get along just because of their appearance.  We read a book about Dr. King and learned how his work made our world a better place for everyone.  Our little art project is displayed at the top of the stairs and here are some sweet faces from our room.  I do wish our world could be as accepting as these boys and girls...it is such a wonderful dream for everyone to live together in peace.  Thank you Dr. King for teaching the world about acceptance!!!

Polar Climates

Here is our art project for the week.  I wrote in our newsletter that we have been working hard to use our imaginations when we talk about polar climates.  Normally January in South Carolina isn't quite so warm, so we did our best with these polar bears and Eskimo friends.  We spent time looking at the globe and learning about life in cold climates.  We also talked about what animals need to live in these really cold places. It was lots of fun for us to pretend that we lived in an area like this and used our walk in the misting rain for an imaginary walk in the falling snow.  Stay tuned as we continue our unit on winter and polar habitats, when we learn about penguins next week.

Lunchbox Love

Another lunchbox surprise!  These little notes get everyone excited and we work hard to read them together.  Thanks parents for making our lunch time fun!

My 1001st Post

Okay I figured out that my last post to the blog was number 1000!  How amazing?  I cannot believe how God has blessed this wonderful preschool and me with so many beautiful and amazing children.  I LOVE teaching preschool at Pilgrim and want to share all of our fun with parents and family.  I hope that you enjoy reading about your child's activities in our room!  Praise Be To God for His Many Blessings!!!!

We Made It to 66 days!

What is about "66 days?"  Well, we when we learned about the Pilgrim's journey to America, we read that many believed the total trip across the ocean to be 66 days.  Now we have an idea about how many days that actually is because it was our 66th day in preschool.  I think we all agreed that this wouldn't have been any fun for us and that going to preschool is whole lot more fun!

Fun With The Letter X

Learning letters can really be more fun than you know.  This week we learned about the letter x and had a great time learning about x-rays and our body.  Here you see some of our friends with an x-ray puzzle.  They were amazed at all of the bones in our body.  God is so awesome if you think about how he made our body work, starting with the strong skeleton that holds our body up.
