Election Day

Okay so we didn't have any super important elections this year...but it is an important topic for our preschool.  It ties right into our unit on Thanksgiving and why the Pilgrims made that horrible voyage to America.  (Well it sorta does.)  Our four year old classes voted on our favorite food.... hamburger vs. pizza.  We had to tell the "polling official" our home address and had to sign in - just like a real election day.  Of course, as adults, we don't get to use these cool feather quill pens, but we do have to be serious about the right location to vote.
Then one by one, we went behind the "art easel" for our private voting station and circled our favorite food.  Mrs. Denise counted up the votes and hamburger won by one vote.

I think the children enjoyed this fun little voting activity and they may ask questions at home.  We have done a lot of talking about the important jobs our elected officials have and why our country is so great!  Yay for hamburgers.... but yay for pizza too!!!!
