Sinterklaas? Don't You Mean Santa Claus?

It was "Sinterklaas" Day at the preschool.....haven't heard of him?  He sure looks like a lot like the Santa we know, but is a little different.  Of course the most important part - he does bring treats.... BUT he rides a horse and has a helper named "Zwarte Piet."  He is from the Netherlands and is celebrated on St. Nicholas Day. While we leave out stockings, children in this country leave out shoes - and if they are good, Sinterklaas will reward them with treats.  As you can see below, we left our shoes out in the hallway for most of the day.  (This was probably better than the idea of getting treats.  Did you know that going around in "sock feet" at the preschool is the most fun ever?)  You can see our paper "wooden" shoes too.  (We thought it might be better for Sinterklaas to put treats here because sometimes shoes are a little dirty.)

Guess what?  When we were away from our room at music- treats appeared!!!  We did hear some sleigh bells - maybe from the horse that Sinterklaas rides, but had no idea that he would make it all the way to our preschool.  (The Netherlands are so far away, so we must have been extra good.)
Happy Sinterklaas Day!.....

AND... look at all of these other versions of Santa....Do you think they'll come visit us too?  Children all over the world celebrate Christmas in different ways.  How amazing it is to learn that we aren't the only boys and girls who get to celebrate Christmas!!!!
