If you haven't discovered the wonderful state parks in South Carolina, now is the time. We spent Saturday at Charles Towne Landing in Charleston. It has been many years since I visited this park, actually since I was about 6 years old. My childhood memories were of fun and frolic and this time was no different. The park has changed a little bit, but, there are still so many wonderful things to see and do. The park offers living history, an animal forest and archeology. We just happened to arrive on a festival day when staff dressed as colonists and actually fired cannons and muskets.
This park is just one of many in our state and there is just so much to learn about our heritage. For an inexpensive get-away, try visiting historic sites around our state. Your children are at the perfect age to get "bitten" by the history bug. My boys are walking history books and love to learn about our state. It is so much easier when they actually experience it first hand.
