Banana Nut Muffins

In case you are still reading this blog, I had to show off another baking first. These are my banana nut muffins. It has taken lots of trying, but finally - a giant muffin that is baked "just right."

Jeep's Hiding Place

Even though Jeep is getting more comfortable with our family - she still loves her hiding place. Doesn't she look comfortable hiding among the shoes?

Welcome Summer

It is here - the lazy days of summer. Take time to relax and enjoy the sun and just rest outside. This is Judy - just waking up from a nap in the warm sunshine. Praise be to God for all things - especially our beautiful creation.

Graduation

Can you tell that are happy! The itchy hats are gone and we have officially started summer! Best Wishes for a Safe & Happy Summer!

Our Spring Program

As tradition, the four year old students open the spring program. Here we are all dressed up and ready to sing. We did a great job and showed everyone that we are all ready for big school.

Is Today Really Our Last Day?

We arrived today for the spring program and graduation. It was our last day of preschool, but by the looks on the children's faces it was just another day. They arrived to a room that was partially emptied, but the children just wanted to know what they were going to play with tomorrow. It is a wonderful feeling to know that school really isn't so bad and that learning can be fun!

This Is Jeep

Okay, we finally got a picture of the other rescue kitty. Her name is Jeep and she is still pretty shy. She mostly keeps my husband's shoes company in the very dark corner of his closet, but today, we were able to get a picture. Even though she is shy, she will come out when adults are around to say "hi." Mrs. Jeep isn't really comfortable with the boys and I can't say that I blame her. They are loud and move pretty fast. We don't think she was used to this much activity. She is a big girl and we love her just as much as Judy, P2 & Dixie. (Oh and don't forget her "sister" Honda.)

Did You Say Ice Cream?

It was our end of the year party and it was great. The children enjoyed a yummy lunch but were most excited about the ice cream dessert. The very best part was all of the toppings to choose from. You can see from our smiling faces that this was the best part of the day. Thanks so much to the moms who helped make this day so great!

I Can Read

Today a friend in our class actually read a book to us! It was so inspirational - because we can read too. The children were almost disappointed that school is over because they all want a chance to show off their reading skills too. Parents - WE ARE EXCITED ABOUT THE SUMMER READING PROGRAM AT THE LIBRARY and can't wait to get to kindergarten next year. Please take us there very soon to sign up and get ready to read! Here is a link to the Lexington Public Library -http://www.lex.lib.sc.us/ If you haven't been there - take time to stop in. It is great fun to borrow books. (& much cheaper.) Thanks friend for sharing your skills!

The Class of 2010

Silly faces to end our year. Happy Summer to everyone!

Our Last Regular Day

Today was our last regular day of school. (Party Day is Wednesday and everyone knows that is really all about playing & having fun.) The children put their thinking hats on and did their best work. You can see in their faces that school is still fun. We are definitely ready for kindergarten.

Artist At Work!

Here is a beautiful owl created from play dough. It is amazing what can be made with our imagination. This a future artist and her work.

This Was A Great Day!

This was such a great day. Our boys and girls have grown into kindergartners. They work in centers and play together independently - kindergarten here we come. You can see in their faces that they are ready to move on to bigger and better things. Happy days - happy smiles. Thank You God!

Have You Ever Seen A Giant Marshmallow?

Our class received a special treat from another class. It was GIANT marshmallows. The pictures do not really represent the size of these giant puffs of sugar. We enjoyed them at the end of the day and then ran off the energy on the playground. (I would hate to see the size of the s'more created by these yummy confections.)

The Last Day Of Show & Tell

It was our last day of show & tell. (The children still don't understand that we really won't come to school after next Thursday.) This time we had some fun stuffed animals, a glove and ball and a race car. Since we do not have show & tell during the year - this was an extra special time for our class.

Bible Heroes

This week we are learning about Bible heroes. Last week we started with Jonah and his amazing "time out" in the belly of a whale. This week we met Joseph and his beautiful coat of many colors and Moses, the baby in a basket. It is amazing that God uses all of us to share His love - big, little, rich or poor. It is such a blessing to share God's love with the boys and girls in our class and it is my prayer that they take His love everywhere they go. Our Bible verse this month is from Proverbs 3:15 - Trust in the Lord with all of your heart. This verse will guide us as we begin to close the chapter in our lives that revolve around preschool and leads us as we enter the world of kindergarten.

My 5th Grader

Marshall had his band concert and I have to post this picture to brag. (It is Mother's Day!) He plays the baritone and did a fabulous job. For a 5th grade band they sounded really good. Way to go LES band! As a reality check for me, I cannot believe that my little baby will be graduating from Lexington Elementary School this year and I will enter the world of the dreaded "middle school." (You thought entering kindergarten was hard.) Life passes us by so quickly these days. It seems like just a blink of the eye since he was my tiny baby boy!

Happy Mother's Day!

To all of the mothers in our class, many wishes for a very happy day! It is very obvious to us that your children love you very much. If you saw your portraits you can see how much you mean to them. As a mother of now older children, I say with assurance that these days come to an end so quickly and your children will be "grown" before you know it. Please take time to share with them and enjoy their company. Asking questions about "moms" is one of my favorite things to do. I learned this year that some moms are as pretty as a hamburger and that some moms are most funny when they make funny faces. I also learned that boys and girls in this class love their moms because they are their moms only! What a blessing God gave us when He gave us the gift of motherhood. Have a wonderful day.

Is It Almost Here?

7 more days of preschool until graduation? It will be here before we all know it, however, the children had some fun making graduation friends to mark this special occasion in their life. Take a moment to look at their art. It is posted outside of our classroom. This is the class of 2010.

More Show & Tell

Here is Thursday's show and tell. More fun presenting to our friends and being brave. We had cool cars, comic books, and a dirt bike magazine. Sharing our favorite things is so much fun. Stay tuned for more show & tell this week.

This Is Honda

About 3 weeks ago, someone left two beautiful cats in front of our house. They were in a pet taxi, tagged and named. ("Jeep" & "Honda") Of course, the phone number was disconnected and the two cats were terrified. Our family was not in the market for any more cats, but we were so sad for them, that we welcomed them into our home. We are not sure what Dixie, Judy & P2 think about the newest additions to our home, but could not find it in our hearts to traumatize them any further. (Note - P2, Dixie and Judy are outside cats that come in to visit and eat.) The boys and girls in our class have heard about the adventures of Jeep & Honda and have asked repeatedly to see pictures. Tonight I was finally successful in getting a snapshot of Honda. (The kitties still remain in hiding most of the time.) So tonight I can finally share Mrs. Honda with the world. We will keep trying with Mrs. Jeep. (Wonder why someone would name two girl kitties after cars?) PS - If you know the real owner of these cats and they did not intend on getting rid of them, please let me know. I have a kind heart and hope that this was some kind of terrible mix up, but will keep these two ladies as long as needed.

A Tasty Snack

To go along with our ocean theme, we made our edible fishing rods for snack today. These are always a big hit. So as a promise to our children, I am giving directions for this yummy snack. (They really want you to make this at home.) You will need large pretzel sticks, one can of vanilla frosting and Captain Crunch cereal. To prepare them, spread frosting on the end of the pretzel and then roll it in the cereal. Eat and enjoy!

Show & Tell Day Three

Today was day number three of show and tell. The children continue to surprise me with their shyness. We had a really cool watch, a "snuggly" blanket, a stuffed animal and a gymnastics belt. The boys and girls are always very proud of themselves and especially love it when they get to pass their items around for friends to see. The stuffed giraffe from the zoo was a big hit. One little boy said, "I've never had a stuffed animal from the real zoo." He even asked our friend if he could come to her house and borrow it. Isn't show and tell so much fun? Maybe if we tried his adults, we would appreciate our things so much more than we do. It is fun to show off our favorite things.
